Was Sir Alan Right to Fire Nicholas?
Nicholas de Lacy-Brown was fired in the first episode of The Apprentice.
It’s hard to stick up for him. He made the absolutely stupid decision of defending himself by telling Sir Alan that he hated football and was highly educated. Sir Alan’s love of football and lack of respect for qualifications are well documented. Nevertheless, Nick went ahead and hung himself.
However, as far as the task goes. The mistakes were not really his fault. The fish mis-labeling was down largely to Raef and, if he’s as much of a fish expert as he said, Alex. And the terrible haggling by Michael was hilariously bad. He does has to take some of the blame for selling lobster at a knock down price, but so does the entire rest of the team. £5 for a lobster?
The girls’ team wasn’t much better. They were struggling to break even by the end. But some nifty haggling by Sugababe look-a-like Lindi pushed them into a healthy profit and bought them a fish supper from Jean-Christophe Novelli.
It’s probably to be expected that there are problems in the beginnings - and they’ll have made much of these in the edits. So often this sort of thing happens in the early stages as people are weighing each other up.
