Big Brown Preakness Winner

May 18, 2008 in Sport

Big Brown was the winner of the Preakness just as expected. He had been favorite long before the race after a series of impressive victories including the best Kentucky Derby in history. He had odds of 1/5 before the race, with bookmakers making his victory almost a foregone conclusion.

Some people had expressed doubts about the possibility of Big Brown’s win as they believed he had not had enough time to recover since the Kentucky Derby.

With this impressive victory, Big Brown looks to be well on course for the triple crown with just the Belmont Stakes between him and membership of the exclusive club of triple crown winners such as Affirmed, Seattle Slew, Secretariat and Citation. If he were to win, he would become only the 12th horse to win the triple crown. As Big Brown Preakness Winner, the odds of his achieving the triple crown have been slashed to to 1/2.

The horse hoping to put an end to Big Brown’s unbeaten run is Casino Drive from Japan. Casino Drive does not have the track record of Big Brown, but has an impeccable bloodline and unlike Big Brown, this horse is well rested.

Will Big Brown win the Triple Crown?

I’m almost certain that he will. There is no question that Big Brown has the power and speed to win the race, that has been very much proven by his previous performances this season. The only question is, “does Big Brown have the stamina to win the Triple Crown?” He has had a punishing season and cannot possibly be in the same shape now as he has been in the previous races. However, even if he is not 100%, Big Brown is still far ahead of any other horse racing at the moment.
