Amantadine
Amantadine is an anti-viral drug that is most often used to tackle Parkinson’s Disease and flu.
Most recently, it has been used in China to combat the spread of avian flu (also referred to as bird flu) by giving it to chickens. This use of amantadine hcl has lead to a strain of bird flu becoming resistant to amantadine hydrochloride. As of now, the strains that have made their way west are not resistant to maantadine, so any such epidemic that should break out in the West may still be treatable with amantadine.
Amantadine in Parkisons Treatment
Amantidine is used in the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. However, it is not clear exactly how the drug works to combat Parkinsons. It is believed that it works to induce the nerve endings in the brain to release dopamine.
Amantadine is also being used to tackle ADHD and multiple sclerosis.
